What is Monel K500?
Monel K500 is an “enhanced” version of Monel 400 (a classic corrosion-resistant nickel-copper alloy). By adding small amounts of aluminum (Al) and titanium (Ti) to Monel 400 and undergoing specific aging heat treatment, it achieves extremely high strength and hardness while maintaining the excellent corrosion resistance of Monel 400.
Monel K500 is harder than ordinary Monel because it contains aluminum and titanium. When the material is heated to a specific temperature (approximately 600°C) and held for a period of time (aging treatment), the aluminum and titanium form tiny intermetallic compound particles (called γ’ phase, chemical formula Ni3(Al,Ti)) with nickel at the grain boundaries. These tiny particles act like nails, holding dislocations in place and hindering metal deformation, thus significantly increasing strength.

How to machine Monel K500?
Monel K500 cnc machining
Monel alloys are difficult to machine (high plasticity, poor thermal conductivity, and prone to tool sticking). The main machining methods include CNC milling, CNC turning, and precision grinding. They are suitable for machining precision parts made of Monel K500 material.
Monel K500 Forging
Monel K500 forging is divided into cold working and hot working. Cold working is mainly used for precision forming and strength improvement, while hot working is suitable for forming large-sized blanks.
